DENTON~ TEXAS, PROHIBITING THE INHALING, DRINK-
ING OR BREATHING OB GLUE AND CERTAIN OTHER SUB-
STANCES, PROVIDING EXCEPTIONS, PROVIDING A PEN-
ALTYFOR VIOLATIONS, AND DECLARING ANEFFECTIVE
DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CIT~ OF DENTON, TEXAS, HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I
That the Code of Ordinances of the City of Denton, Texas
zs hereby amended by addzng new Sectzons 14-46 and 14-47 to
Chapter 14 of s~d Code of Ordznances whzch shall hereafter
read as follows
SECTION 14-46 - SNIFFING OR DRINKING GLUE OR OTHER
SUBSTANCES
No person shall inhale, breath or drln~ any compound,
llquld, chemical, or similar substance, known as glue, adheszve
cement, mucilage, dope, or any other materzal or substance or
combination thereof with the intent of becomzng intoxicated,
paralyzed, irrational, or ~n any other manner changing, dls-
tortlng or dmsturbmng the th~nkzng process, judgement, bal-
ance or coordlnatzon of such person For the purpose of this
section, any such condztlon so induced shall be deemed to be
an zntoxzcated condltzon
SECTION 14-47 - SAME - EXCEPTIONS.
(a) The provzszons of Sectzon 14-46 shall not pertain
to any person who ~nhales, breathes or drznks such maeer~al
or substance pursuant to the dzrectzon or prescr~ptzon of
any doctor, physmclan, surgeon, dentist, or podiatrist auth-
orized to so dzrect or prescribe
(b) The provisions of Section 14-46 shall not pertazn
to offenses ~nvolvzng the use of alcoholic beverages or zntoxz-
caring lzquors otherwzse covered by the Code of the Czty of
Denton, or statutes of the State of Texas
SECTION II.
Any person vzolat~ng any provms~on of thzs ordznance shall
be fined upon conv~ction any amount not exceeding Two Hundred
($200 00) Dollars
SECTION III
If any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause
or phrase of th~s ordznance should be declared ~nval~d for
any,reason whatsoever, such decision shall not affect the
remaining portions of th~s ordinance whzch remain zn full
force and effect, and to th~s end the prov~szons of thzs
ordlnance are hereby declared to be severable
~ECTION IV
That th~s ordinance shall become effective fourteen (14)
days from the date of ~ts passage, and the C~ty Secretary
· s hereby directed to cause the caption of th~s ordinance
to be published twice ~n the Denton Record-Chronicle wlthln
ten (10) days of the date of its passage
