AN ORDINANCE BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DENTON, TEXAS, CALLING AND ORDERING AN ELECTION TO
BE HELD ON THE 16TH DAY OF JULY, 1966, THE SAME
BEING ON A SATURDAY, FOR THE PURPOSE OF DECIDING
WHETHER THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON
SHALL ADOPT A RESOLUTION FINDING THAT (1) ONE OR
MORE SLUM OR BLIGHTED AREAS EXIST IN THE CITY OF
DENTON AND, (2) THE REHABILITATION, CONSERVATION,
OR SLUM CLEARANCE AND REDEVELOPMENT, OR A COMBINA-
,TION THEREOF, OF SUCH AREA OR AREAS IS NECESSARY
IN THE INTEREST OF PUBLIC HEALTH, SAFETY, MORALS
OR WELFARE OF THE RESIDENTS OF THE SAID CITY, ESTAB-
LISHING THE HOURS AND PLACE FOR THE SAID ELECTION,
PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION OF THIS ORDINANCE AND
POSTING IN THREE PUBLIC PLACES IN THE CITY OF DENTON
AS NOTICE OF SAID ELECTION, DIRECTING THE CITY
SECRETARY TO MAKE UP THE OFFICIAL BALLOT, CAUSING
SAME TO BE PRINTED AND DELIVERED TO THE PRESIDING
OFFICERS, PROVIDING FOR THE MAKING OF OFFICIAL RE-
TURNS OF SAID ELECTION, PROVIDING FOR THE CANVASS-
ING OF THE RETURNS OF THE SAID ELECTION AND DECLAR-
ING THE RESULTS OF THE SAME BY THE CITY COUNCIL, AND
DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I.
That an electaon shall be held an the Municipal Bualdang,
at 221 North Elm Street, an the Caty of Denton, Texas, between
the hours of 8 00 o'clock A M and 7 00 o'clock P M on the
16th day of July, 1966, the same beang a Saturday, for the pur-
pose of decadlng whether the Caty Council of the Czty of Denton,
Texas, shall adopt a Resolutaon fandang that
(1) One or more slum or blaghted areas exast an the
Caty of Denton, and
(2) The rehabllatat~on, conservataon, or slum clear-
ance and redevelopment, or a combanatzon thereof,
of such area or areas as necessary an the anterest
of publac health, safety, morals or welfare of the
resadents of the said C~ty
Thas as in accordance wath the provzszons of Article 1269 (1)-3
of the Revased Caval Statutes of the State of Texas
SECTION II
That the ballots shall substantaaly state the two proposa-
taons, to wat (1) for the adoption of the Resolution, and (2)
against the adoption of the Resolution and the proposition
receiving the h~ghest number of votes shall be declared to be
decisive
SECTION III~
That not,ce of said elect~on shall be given by the posting
of two cop~es of this ordinance, signed by the Mayor and attest-
ed by the C~ty Secretary, ~n three public places of the said
C~ty, one of which places shall be an the MunIcipal Building,
for thirty (30) consecutive days prior to the date of the said
election and th~s ordinance shall be published an full at least
twice ~n the Denton Record Chronlcle, the first such publication
to be at least thirty (30) days prior to the said election
SECTION IL
That Jewel Smzth Ks hereby appointed presiding Judge of
said election, and the said presiding Judge shall appoint such
asszstants as may be necessary to properly conduct sazd electzon
SECTION V.
That the C~ty Secretary shall make up the offzclal ballet
from the propositions presented to ham, and he Ks hereby auth-
orized and dzrected to have the ballots to be used in such
elect~on printed and delivered to the sa~d presiding Judge
SECTION VI
That ~m~edlately~afeer the counting of the votes the presid-
ing Judge shall dellver the offlclal returns of the elect~on to
the City Secretary
SECTION VII
That on the Monday next following the election, the City
Coune~,l shall canvass the returns and declare the results which
shall be recorded an the M~nutes of the Council
SECTION VIII.
That the proposition which receives the h~ghest number of
votes shall be declared decisive In the event of a t~e, the
presiding Judge shall draw blandly from an envelope containing
the two propos~tlons, and the one drawn shall be declared elected
SECTION IX.
Th~s ordinance shall become effective ~mmed~ately upon ~ts
passage

TIONS, AND ELECTIONS UNDER AND PURSUANT TO THE
URBAN RENEWAL LAW OF TEXAS
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON
TEXAS as follows
Section 1 It ~s hereby found and determined that one or more slum or
bhghted areas exist in the City of Denton
Section 2 It ~s hereby further found and determined that the rehabilita
tion conservation, or slum clearance and redevelopment or a combination
thereof of such slum or blighted area or areas is necessary in the interest
of public health safety morals or welfare of the residents of said c~ty
Section 3 It is hereby further determined that the City of Denton Texas
shall exermas the powers granted to the City by the Urban Renewal Law o!
the State of Texas except the Urban Renewal Project Powers as defined
in said Urban Renewal Law
Section 4 It is hereby further determined to be necessary and in the public
interest that the City of Denton elect and accordingly the C~ty hereby
elects to have said Urban Renewal Project Powers exercised by the Urban
Renewal Agency of the City of Denton which Agency is created by said
Urban Renewal Law
Section 5 The findings determinations and elertmns herein made are
made in accordance with and the Various terms used herem are used m the
same sense as used or defined in said Urban Renewal Law
