1966-009 AN ORDINANCE BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
~DENTON, TE~AS, CALLING AND ORDERING AN ELECTION
TO BE HELD ON THE 5TH DAY OF APRIL, A D. 1966,
'THE SAME BEING THE FIRST TUESDAY IN SAID MONTH,
FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING TWO (2) COUNCILMEN
FOR THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, IN ACCORDANCE
WITH THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 3, SECTION 3 O1
(a) OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS,
ESTABLISHING THE HOURS AND PLACE FOR THE SAID
ELECTION! PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION OF THIS ORDI-
NANCE AND POSTING IN THREE PUBLIC PLACES IN THE
CITY OF DENTON AS NOTICE OF SAID ELECTION, DIRECT-
ING THE CITY SECRETARY TO MAKE UP THE OFFICIAL
BALLOT, CAUSING THE SAME TO BE PRINTED AND DELIVER-
ED TO THE PRESIDING OFFICER, PROVIDING FORTHE MAK-
ING OF OFFICIAL RETURNS OF SAID ELECTION, PROVIDING
FOR THE CANVASSING OF THE RETURNS OF THE SAID
ELECTION AND DEOIIARING THE RESULTS OF SAME BY THE
CITY COUNCIL, AND DECLARING AND EFFECTIVE DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I o
That an electaon shall be held an the Munlcapal Bualdang
an the Caty of Denton, Texas, between the hours of 8 00 o'clock
a.m. and 7 00 o'clock p.m. on the 5th day of Apral, A. D 1966,
the .same being the farst Tuesday of said month, for the purpose
of electing two (2) Councalmen for the Cmty of Denton, an
accordance wbth the provasaons of Artacle 3, Section 3.01 {a)
of the Charter of the Cxty of Denton, Texas.
SE..CTION II.
That the two candadates who receive the highest number of
votes shall be declared elected to the C~ty Council of the
C~ty of Denton.
SECTION III.
That notice of sa~d elect~on shall be g~ven by the postang
of true copies of this ordanance, sagned by the Mayor and
attested by the C~ty Secretary, in three public places an the
sa~ Caty~ one of which places shall be at the Munlc~pal Buald-
~ng~ for thirty (30) consecutave days praor to the date of the
saad electaon and thas ordanance shall be published an full
one time an the Denton Record-Chronicle at least tharty (30)
days praor to the saad electaon.
SECTION IV
,Tha~ ~/~ ~/~/7~/ is hereby appoanted Presad-
ang Judge of said election, and the saad Presad~ng Judge shall
appo=nt such assastants as may be necessary to properly conduct
saad, election.
SECTION ~
That the Caty Secretary shall make up the offzcaal ballot
from the names presented to h~m by appl~catlon or nominating
petataons as provaded by Article 3, Sections 3 02 and 3 03 of
the Charter of the City of Denton, Texas, and he ~s hereby
authorazed and directed to have the ballots to be used ~n such
election pranted and delavered to the saad Pres~dzng Judge
SECTION VI.
That lmmedaately after the countang of the votes the
Presiding Judge shall delayer the offacaal returns of the
eleutaon to the Caty Secretary.
SECTION VII.
That on the Monday next following the electaon, the City
Councal shall canvass the returns and declare the results
which shall be recorded an the manures of the Councal.
SECTION VIII.
That the two candadates who receive the haghest number
of votes shall be declared elected and the Mayor shall delayer
Cerltlflcates of Election to the successful candadates If
two candidates shall tie, the Councal shall order a second
electaon to be held on the 14th day after the farst electaon
at whach only the names of the two candadates who receave the
same number of votes at the first election shall be printed
on the ballot. In the event of a tie at the second election,
the two candIdates shall east lots to determine which one
shall be declared elected°
SECTION IX.
This ordinance shall become effective ~mmedlately upon
its passage.
