2010-215sAlegahour documentslordinances110\ratify budget.doc ORDINANCE 2010-215 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, RATIFYING THE ADOPTION OF THE FISCAL YEAR 2010 - 2011 ANNUAL PROGRAM OF SERVICES (BUDGET) FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING ON OCTOBER 1, 2010, AND ENDING ON SEPTEMBER 30, 2011 WHEN THE BUDGET WILL RAISE MORE REVENUE FROM PROPERTY TAXES THAN LAST YEAR'S BUDGET; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Denton, Texas, has previously on this day of September 21, 2010 adopted the Fiscal Year 2010 - 2011 Annual Program of Services (Budget) for the City of Denton and set a tax rate for 2010 in separate votes and actions; and WHEREAS, this Budget will raise more revenue from property taxes than last year's budget; and WHEREAS, Section 102.007 of the Texas Local Government Code requires the City Council to take a separate vote to ratify the property tax increase reflected in the Budget when it will raise more total property taxes than last year's budget; NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS: SECTION 1. The findings set forth in the preamble of this Ordinance are incorporated into the body of this Ordinance as if fully set forth herein. SECTION 2. The City Council hereby ratifies the adoption of the City of Denton Fiscal Year 2010-2011 Annual Program of Services (Budget) that will raise more total property taxes than last year's Budget by $795,459 or 1.89% and of that amount $934,827 is tax revenue to be raised from new property added to the tax roll this year with a total tax rate of $0.68975 per $100 of taxable value. The City Council hereby ratifies the property tax increase reflected in the Budget. SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Denton, Texas on this the 21St day September 2010, at which meeting a quorum was present and the meeting was held in accordance with the provisions of Tex. Gov't Code § 551.001, et. seq. The City Secretary is hereby directed to record this Ordinance and the vote to ratify approval of the adoption of the Budget that will raise more revenue from property taxes than last year's budget.
