City of Denton Holds 3rd Annual State of the City
DENTON, TX,Jan. 18, 2019—On Thursday, Jan. 17, the Denton community came together at
the City of Denton's 3rd Annual State of the City event at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Denton
Convention Center. At the event, residents, business owners, and community leaders joined City
Council Members and staff to learn about City services, upcoming events, and ways to get
involved in local government.
Mayor Chris Watts delivered the keynote address, highlighting the City's progress and
accomplishments from the past year and goals for the future. The address focused on
organizational changes, capital projects, growth and development, public safety, and social
service initiatives. Following the keynote address, a question-and-answer session was held,
giving all attendees a chance to ask about a variety of City projects.
Throughout the event, attendees were able to learn about City departments, their operations, and
a wide variety of programs and services through an engagement fair.
"This year we had an increased focus on improving service delivery, working strategically to
implement changes and deliver results in key areas such as capital projects, development
services, and public safety," said City Manager Todd Hileman. "I'm proud that we can highlight
the high-quality programs, projects, and improved services that provide so much value to the
Denton community at the State of the City event."
In addition to the Mayor's remarks, the second annual issue of the City of Denton Annual Report
was available to attendees. The report includes major accomplishments from the previous year,
business process improvements and cost containment strategies, and upcoming projects to better
serve residents and businesses.
