Denton Back to School Fair 2019
2nd Annual Citywide Back to School Fair Set for Saturday, Aug. 10
DENTON, TX,April 19, 2019—The second annual Denton Back to School Fair has been set
for Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UNT Gateway Center(800 N. Texas
Blvd). The event serves families with school supplies and backpacks, health education resources,
free vision screenings, hearing exams, haircuts, and more. Last year, the Denton Back to School
Fair assisted more than 3,000 students with school supplies.
"I am proud of the hard work of our community groups and nonprofits, who have come together
to provide support to families in Denton," said Mayor Chris Watts. "The fair provides much-
needed supplies and resources to many families throughout Denton."
In the Denton Independent School District alone, there are more than 14,000 students, or 46% of
the student population, who are eligible for free and reduced lunch, which means their household
income is at or below 185% of the federal poverty level. The Back to School Fair event is
designed to help local families and students be prepared for their first day of school with a new
backpack and school supplies, in addition to providing access to the resources for families to
have a healthy start to the school year.
Community support is vital and necessary for this event to serve the number of children who
need these resources. The nonprofit organizations coordinating the event are seeking
contributions from area businesses, community leaders, and individual donors to serve these
children. Every$20 donated will provide a backpack and school supplies for one student.
Donations can be made through the Denton Back to School Fair website at
www.dentonbacktoschool.org.
Families must register students to receive supplies at the fair by Friday, July 19. Registration can
be done online at www.dentonbacktoschool.org.
