2017-08-08 Minutes DENTON ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEEETING Minutes from August 8, 2017 PRESENT: Anne Sullivan, Charles Hunter, Paul O’Neil, Lt. Hildebrand, Kathleen Duffy ABSENT: Nanci Kimmey, Dr. Angie Paben I. Called to Order The meeting was called to order by Kathleen Duffy at 11:35 a.m. II. Approval of May 30, 2017 Minutes Motion was made by Anne Sullivan to approve minutes as reviewed; seconded by Charles Hunter and approved. III. Review of Denton Animal Shelter Statistics – Paul O’Neil Year to Date: 10/1/16 – 7/31/17 Adoption + 4.6% Reclaims -4.7% Transferred +1.5 Euthanized -5.8% IV. Denton Animal Shelter Reports – Paul O’Neil A. Staff Positions – All Animal Control Officers are required to have state certification, recently two passed with three more to complete their training in October. In-house training is being held quarterly and regional training is on-going. B. Kennel Reports 1) Currently there is a large amount of kittens in foster homes. 2) Another vendor is being used for a more accurate Parvo testing. 3) The purchase price for microchips was negotiated down a dollar each. 4) New stainless steel tables for kitten area and cat isolation room (DASF funds used). C. Community Events – Cat Yoga, fundraiser in Training Room; August 19 – Clear the Shelter; August 26 - TCAP low cost vaccinations sponsored by DASF; September 14 – Texas Day of Giving, the shelter stayed open till 7:00 for adoptions. Fox News reporter was at the shelter with their TV crew to show a youngster from El Savador who had raised over $580 for the shelter. They visited the cat and dog adoption areas V. Old Business – Lt. Hildebrand Wheels for the stainless steel kennels in the stray hold area of the shelter were never order. Perhaps they can be purchased an installed in the future. VI. New Business – Lt. Hildebrand & Paul O-Neil A. Janet Steiss, DVM, board member of DASF, recommended a local artist that is painting a large mural on the corridor wall that faces the glass window overlooking the adoption yard for the dogs. It is a work a wonderful work in progress for the shelter. B. Because of all the construction and delays on I35, Denton County now has the contract for animal services in Lake Dallas. VII.
