053119 Press Release - Make Music Denton 2019 IOv FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DENTON Ryan Adams • (940) 349-8565 • Ryan.Adams@cityofdenton.com Make Music Denton Returns on June 21 Free Outdoor Music-Making Events to be Held Across City as Part of Annual Celebration DENTON, TX, May 31, 2019-Make Music Denton will return for its second year with a wild and wonderful mix of free outdoor musical events on Friday, June 21. Make Music Denton is part of Make Music Day, a global music celebration that takes place on the summer solstice each year and brings together people of all ages and skill levels to make music. This year, more than 80 U.S. cities will host thousands of Make Music performances as part of the world's largest annual music event. Make Music Day began in France in 1982 as the Fete de la Musique and has spread to more than 1,000 cities across 120 countries. Unlike a typical musical festival, Make Music concerts are performed by anyone who wants to take part and enjoyed by everyone who wants to attend. From classical to folk, hip hop to opera, Latin jazz to punk rock, live music of all kinds resounds on streets, sidewalks,porches,plazas,parks, gardens, store fronts, and other public spaces on the longest day of the year. Highlights of Make Music Denton will include: • An Instrument Petting Zoo on the Locust Street side of the Denton County Courthouse- on-the-Square, 110 W. Hickory St., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; • Jazz ensembles, hosted by TB Winds, on the Oak Street side of the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square, 110 W. Hickory St., from 8 to 10 p.m.; • Performances inside the Golden Triangle Mall, 2201 S. I-35, Center Court and Food Court, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; • Performances on the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square (on the Oak and Hickory Street sides), 110 W. Hickory St., 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. All musicians, amateur or professional, who want to perform as part of Make Music Denton can sign up for available locations at matchdenton.makemusicday.org. Registration closes on June 18. Businesses,buildings, schools, churches, and other facilities that wish to host performances can also sign up through the online registration portal.
