062819 Press Release - Fireworks Safety (June 2019) IOv FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DENTON Jason Eddington • (940) 349-8848 • Jason.Eddington@cityofdenton.com Firework Safety Denton Fire Department Reminds Residents Fireworks are Illegal in the City DENTON, TX,June 28,2019—The Denton Fire Department would like to remind residents that it is illegal to use or possess fireworks within the Denton city limits or to use fireworks within 5,000 feet of the city limits. Offenders may be fined up to $2,000 and fireworks will be confiscated. If you live where fireworks are permissible, here are some tips to keep you safe when buying, using, or enjoying fireworks: • Always buy from an established retail outlet; • Never make your own fireworks, and be on the lookout for anyone experimenting with homemade fireworks; • Always read and follow the directions on the label; • Light fireworks away from homes or buildings; • Keep a bucket of water nearby; • The person discharging the fireworks should wear eye protection and never have any part of their body over a firework; • Be sure other people are out of range before lighting fireworks; • Light only one firework at a time-and never re-light a "dud" firework; • Never discharge fireworks in metal or glass containers and do not carry them in your pocket; • Be sure to have a responsible adult in charge; and • Never allow children to play with fireworks.
