All persons with an outstanding red-light camera citation from the City of Denton may consider the violation dismissed and are not required to take any further action on the citation. As a result of the legislation, the City of Denton ceased the issuance of all red-light camera citations on June 2 and immediately began work to terminate its contract with Redflex and remove red-light cameras from City rights-of-way. The Denton City Council adopted an ordinance terminating its contract with Redflex at the June 11 City Council meeting. All red-light cameras within the city have been disconnected from power and are inoperable. Additionally, all signs relating to the red-light cameras have been removed. Redflex has notified the City that it will remove the camera poles and casings within 60 days of the termination of its contract with the City; however, the City is in discussions with Redflex to have the poles and casings removed in an expedited timeframe. The City of Denton first authorized a red-light camera program on Dec. 7, 2004, and has contracted with Redflex Traffic Systems USA to administer the program since Nov. 15, 2005. The program was implemented to improve intersection safety and operated up to 11 cameras at nine intersections at the close of the program. The City has posted information relating to termination of the red-light camera program on its website at www.cityofdenton.com/redlightcameras. Additionally, questions may be directed to a special phone line set up by the City to communicate red-light camera information at (940) 349- 7977.
