The Center restores and protects a variety of ecosystems, including bottomland forest, wetland, and upland prairie. In addition to its natural beauty, Clear Creek has become popular to visitors for its educational and recreational opportunities. Visitors can participate in a variety of nature-centered activities at Clear Creek, including free sustainability workshops and annual events, such as the Honey Run or Heritage Festival. CLEAR CREEK NATURAL HERITAGE CENTER IS DENTON’S CONNECTION TO NATURE Clear Creek is also a popular place to hike with 10 miles of family-friendly trails. The property is a partnership between the City of Denton and the United States Army Corps of Engineers to sustainably manage this 2,900-acre area. The Elm Fork of the Trinity River runs through the middle of the property making it an important area for watershed protection. Each year, thousands of students from Denton ISD visit Clear Creek to learn about the native ecosystems. Over the last year, the Center has partnered with the Elm Fork Master Naturalists to provide additional educational support and activities during student visits. This partnership has been an enormous success, winning second place in the Exemplary Project Awards at the 2018 Texas Master Naturalist Annual Meeting. Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center is located at 3310 Collins Rd., and is open to the public every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. For answers to frequently asked questions, maps, and to learn more, visit www.clearcreekdenton.com. Community volunteers play a major role in the maintenance of both the trail system and various garden projects at Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center. They also help to ensure the success of major events and programs throughout the year. Last year, volunteers contributed more than 1,000 hours of service at Clear Creek. Each of the various volunteer opportunities are shared in a seasonal newsletter to Clear Creek’s volunteers contact list, maintained by the City’s Sustainability Department. Community members can also work with the City to schedule an individual or group volunteer event at the Center.
