MLK Jr. Day Events and Closings
City Facilities Closed Monday, Jan. 20
DENTON, TX, Jan. 15, 2020 - City of Denton facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20, in
observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday. Please note the following with respect
to specific City of Denton services and facilities.
Parks and Recreation
The City of Denton Parks and Recreation Department is co-sponsoring an MLK Jr. Day
celebration titled, “We Still See the Promised Land.” The event begins at 11 a.m. with a youth
flag football game at Fred Moore Park (500 S. Bradshaw St.). At 2 p.m., Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Inc. will lead a march from the University of North Texas Union (1155 Union Cir.) to
Fred Moore Park. From there, the march continues on to the MLK Jr. Rec Center (1300 Wilson
St.) where a program honoring Dr. King begins at 3:30 p.m. Dinner will be served immediately
following the program. The celebration is free and open to residents of all ages. For additional

MLK Jr. Rec Center will be closed to the public on Monday, Jan. 20, but will open at 3 p.m. for
the celebration event.
Denton Senior Center will be closed Friday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. through Monday, Jan. 20.
Denton Natatorium, Denia Rec Center, North Lakes Rec Center, Denton Civic Center, and
Goldfield Tennis Center will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20.
North Lakes Driving Range will be open regular business hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Libraries
All libraries will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20, and will resume regular hours on Tuesday, Jan.
21.
Solid Waste and Recycling
There will be no curbside trash, recycling, or yard waste collection on Monday, Jan. 20.
Collection will be delayed one day during the week. The City of Denton Landfill will be open
from 7 a.m. to noon.
Animal Services
The Linda McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20. To
report an animal non-emergency, call (940) 349-8181 and select option 8. In case of an
emergency, call 911.

Public Safety
Public safety personnel will be on duty during the holiday. The Denton Police Department non-
emergency number is (940) 349-8181, and in case of an emergency, dial 911.
Utilities
Customer Service will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20. To report a utility service emergency, call
Utilities dispatch at (940) 349-7000.
Airport
Denton Enterprise Airport administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20. The air
traffic control tower will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the airfield will remain open 24
hours per day. Airport Operations is available 24/7 at (940) 349-7722.
