SUBJECT:
Embassy Suite Hotel and Denton Convention Center
BACKGROUND:
Report No. 2017-005
Staff has received several inquiries as to the progress of the Embassy Suite Hotel and Denton
Convention Center. O'Reilly Hotel Partners Denton (OHPD) indicates that the construction of
the project is progressing as planned. The hotel structure was recently topped out at the eleventh
story, and the framing for the convention center is in place. Expected completion is anticipated
this fall (September or October). Furthermore, O'Reilly Hospitality Management (OHM)
indicates that they have already booked a number of events and conferences in anticipation of the
opening later this year.
For your reference, I have attached an architect's rendering of the western elevation of the
project, which is the view that visitors traveling along I-35 will see. As you can see the Denton
Convention Center name is very prominent and highly visible. Staff has also been approached by
the OHM regarding the naming of the interior meeting rooms. A team representing the
Convention and Visitor's Bureau and the Economic Development Department has been created
to help identify Denton area themes to recommend to OHM.
