INFORMAL STAFF REPORT
TO MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
SUBJECT:
Denton County Redistricting
BACKGROUND:
Council recently requested information on whether the Denton County Redistricting Plan would
have any effect on City of Denton voters. The Denton County Elections Administration Office
has provided the following information:
1. There are four precincts within the City of Denton that are included in the change.
2. The changes will take effect January 2018.
3. None of the outer boundaries of the precincts are changing, only the interior boundaries are
changing to accommodate a reduction in the total voter count so as not to exceed 5,000. The
changes do not have any effect on City of Denton voting district lines.
4. The only change a voter will notice is a change in precinct number.
5. The affected precincts are:
Precinct 1007 — located near Cross Roads and Providence. Denton has a small section
following Highway 380 and north of Highway 380. There are no City of Denton voters
listed in this area. The original Precinct 1007 will remain with the Town of Cross Roads.
The new Precinct 1045 includes all of the Town of Krugerville.
Precinct 1017 — located in District 4. This precinct will be split at East Ryan Road.
Anything north of East Ryan Road will be remain in the original Precinct 1007. Anything
south of East Ryan Road will be in the new Precinct 1046.
Precinct 4003 —located in District 3. This precinct will be split along 135. Anything west of
135 will remain in the original Precinct 4003. Anything east of 135 will be in the new
Precinct 4044.
Precinct 4007 — located in District 3. This precinct will be split along West Oak Street.
Anything north of West Oak will remain in the original Precinct 4007. Anything south of
West Oak Street will be in the new Precinct 4045.
