City of Denton Encourages Utility Customers Avoid Service Interruptions
Customers with Outstanding Balances Should Call 940-349-8700
DENTON, TX,Aug. 28, 2020—To provide customers relief during the COVID-19 pandemic,
the City of Denton suspended utility interruptions for those customers who had outstanding
balances in April of this year. The suspension of interruptions has ended as of this month.
The City of Denton strongly encourages all utility customers with outstanding balances to
contact Utility Customer Service at(940) 349-8700 to avoid a service interruption. When
contacting the City, residents will:
• Have the option to set up a payment plan to pay an outstanding balance;
• Receive a referral to organizations who provide utility assistance resources;
• Receive a hold on any service interruptions for two weeks when referred for assistance;
and
• Enroll in an alternative payment program, Pay-As-You-Go.
"Our priority is to help customers avoid service interruption and get to available assistance, and
the first step is for us to talk to them," said Christa Foster, City of Denton Customer Service
Manager. "This is the best way to protect you from service interruption."
All customers at risk of service interruption will receive phone and mail notifications from the
City. Any customer receiving these notifications should call the City of Denton at (940) 349-
8700 as soon as possible.
In addition to payment plans, individuals and families may be eligible for assistance in paying
their utility bills and outstanding balances through Interfaith Ministries, the United Way of
Denton County, and other organizations. When customers call to discuss their outstanding
balance, City of Denton staff will send their information to these organizations, so they may see
if the customer qualifies for assistance.
