Council Extends Declaration of Local Disaster for
Green Tree Estates Neighborhood
City Will Continue to Provide Temporary Water Service to Neighborhood Through Sept. 15
DENTON, TX, Sept. 2, 2020—Following the expiration of the previous declaration of local
disaster for Green Tree Estates on Aug. 31, Mayor Chris Watts signed a new declaration of local
disaster for public health emergency on Tuesday, Sept. 1, for the Green Tree Estates
neighborhood. At the City Council meeting later that day, the Denton City Council voted to
extend the declaration through Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Under the declaration of local disaster, the City of Denton has authority to:
• Continue providing temporary water service to the Green Tree Estates neighborhood
through Tuesday. Sept. 15; and
• Provide the City Manager authority to expend up to $10,000 for disaster response
activities.
The extension was requested by neighborhood members to allow additional time to connect
Green Tree Estates properties to the City of Denton water system.
A copy of the ordinance can be obtained through the City's Secretary Office.
