111820 Press Release - City Facility Update 1O1- `FJ60 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DENTON Ryan Adams • (940) 349-8565 • Ryan.Adams@cityofdenton.com City of Denton Updates Parks and Library Facility Openings Changes Reflect the Impact of the Rise in Local COVID-19 Cases DENTON, TX, Nov. 18, 2020—In a response to the rise in local COVID-19 cases, beginning Saturday,Nov. 21 the City of Denton will modify the extent to which its Parks and Recreation and Library facilities are open to the public. These changes not only help to reduce the possible risk of COVID transmission within City facilities, but also support the continuity of services in the event the virus significantly impacts City staff. The following facility and program changes will go into effect on Saturday, Nov. 21 and continue until further notice: Denton Public Library—Walk-in access to the North Branch and South Branch libraries will be suspended; Emily Fowler Central Library is currently closed for walk-in service and will remain closed. All three branches of the Denton Public Library(Emily Fowler Central Library,North Branch, and South Branch) will offer drive-up window pickups (North Branch) and contactless curbside pickup (Fowler and South Branch) for held items with new temporary hours from Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. North Branch and South Branch will offer appointments for computer/internet use, and all three branches will provide virtual book-a-librarian assistance,phone and e-mail reference, reader's advisory services, and account assistance. The Denton Public Library will also continue to offer virtual programming through social media, Zoom classes, and more. Winter and Spring Virtual Program Guides are being developed and will be available on the Library's website soon. To learn more about available library services, visit www.libr4a.cityofdenton.com. Parks and Recreation Facilities—The opening of the Denia Recreation Center, Senior Center, and Civic Center will be pushed back to spring 2021, while the MLK Jr. Recreation Center and the North Lakes Recreation Center will remain open with their current modified hours and services. Parks virtual programming will continue and in-person programs and leagues will conclude in early December. In addition, The MLK Jr. Rec Center will now serve as the primary Inclement Weather Warming Station, with the Civic Center serving as a back-up if needed.
