Pay Your Utility Bill Balance with Pay As You Go We know during these tough times, paying bills can be challenging. Due to this, the City has temporarily suspended utility shutoffs due to non-payment effective March 13, 2020. We do encourage residents to continue to make full or partial payments when possible as any unpaid bills will continue to accumulate on your account. One easy way to gradually pay off outstanding bills is through the debt recovery program of the City’s Pay As You Go service with MyUsage. In addition to debt recovery, MyUsage accounts never have deposits, late fees, or reconnection fees. If you have an existing deposit on your account, moving to PrePaid allows you to apply that deposit to any outstanding balances or provide credit toward future usage! Pay As You Go also allows you to pay as much as you want, when you want, and how you want. To sign up, you will need: • The address you wish to connect to services. • A valid government issued ID. • A lease or proof of purchase may be required at the time of connection. • Partial payment of any outstanding debts owed to the City of Denton. • An initial utility payment of at least $50. Dentonites love their greenery, and with good reason. Clean and healthy yards increase curb appeal and property values while keeping us safe from insects and wildlife that love to hide in tall grass. Summer in Denton can mean long stretches of time without rain, and that can have a drastic impact on our lawns and plants. You might want to turn on your sprinklers and water your vegetation during the day, but keep in mind that most Texas cities, including Denton, have watering restrictions in effect throughout the summer months. From June 1 to Sept. 30, residents are prohibited from watering with their irrigation systems between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., though hand watering and soaker hoses are still allowed. This restriction is in place because watering during this time will cause a majority of your lawn water to evaporate. Help your water bill and your lawn by avoiding your sprinkler system during these hours. In addition to the summer mid-day watering restriction, Denton has water conservation regulations that are in effect all year long: • Watering of Pavement: Watering pavement is prohibited, so ensure all of sprinkler heads are facing your lawn and not the street, sidewalk, or driveway. Excessive watering that creates a stream of water into streets and drainage areas is also prohibited. • Watering During Precipitation: Watering while it’s raining is also prohibited, so remember to turn off sprinkler systems on days with a rainy forecast. • Broken Irrigation Systems: Broken or missing sprinkler heads waste tremendous amounts of water, so remember to test your system regularly and make repairs as necessary. • Outdoor Leaks: Leaking service lines, spigots, or any other visible outdoor leaks are not only code violations, but they are also large contributors to a high water bill. Help your City, your lawns, and your water bills by adhering to the City’s watering regulations. Conserve Water and Lower Your Water Bill Summer Mulch Mania There are many benefits to using mulch, especially during a hot Texas summer! Here are a some of the ways it can help: • Mulch keeps moisture contained and reduces water loss in soil. • It serves as an insulator by moderating the temperature of soil, keeping it cooler on hot days. • It improves the visual appearance of gardens. In addition to Dyno Dirt compost and soil, City of Denton offers a variety of mulches for purchase, including: • Double Grind Mulch - $17.50 per cubic yard • Deco-Colored Mulch (available in black, red, brown) - $30 per cubic yard • Erosion Control Mulch - $3 per cubic yard For a further description and current pricing, please visit www.cityofdenton.com/dyno.
