Library - North Branch cOF City of Denton DENTON Job Description Title: Student Aide (Mayor's Summer Youth Program) — Library (North Branch) Position ID: SA0002 Department/Division: Library Services Reports to: Branch Manager FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: No DOT: No Definition: Responsible for providing support to the Youth, Adult and Teen Services Librarians. Essential Functions: • Assist in setting up and tearing down programs for children and adult programs • Assist librarian in preparing materials for programs • Assist librarian in programs as needed • Organize, straighten and clean various areas in the library • Provide friendly customer service to patrons registering for the Summer Reading Challenge • Data entry related to the Summer Reading Challenge Additional Duties: • Assist circulation with shelving and shelf checking materials • Walk perimeter of branch and bring materials found on tables to re-shelving carts • Assist with sorting donations • Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: • Must be enrolled in High School or equivalent or a recent graduate • Must be between the ages of 16 to 21 years of age Core Competencies: • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing • Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance • Ability to interact with customers professionally • Ability to present a professional appearance Conditions of Employment: Job Description Template — Job Code Page 2 of 3 • Must be a resident of the City of Denton • Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check • Must be able to work Monday through Friday (15-20 hours per week) or may include weekend, if needed Preferences: • Knowledge of standard office programs, such as Microsoft Office and using a scanner • Knowledge of the mission of a public library • Experience working with children or teens • Bilingual in Spanish and English Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The bold and italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday. • Sedentary — lifting no more than 10 pounds • Light — lifting no more than 20 pounds; carry up to 10 pounds • Medium — lifting no more than 50 pounds, carry up to 25 pounds • Heavy — lifting no more than 100 pounds, carry up to 50 pounds • Very Heavy — lifting more than 100 pounds, carry more than 50 pounds Physical Demand Codes: The following describes if the incumbent is expected to exert the following physical demands during a typical workday and the overall frequency.
