Crime Analyst - SA5010 - POLICE - ADMIN SAKI (Grant Funded) City of Denton Job Description Title: Crime Analyst - Grant Funded (SAKI) (Part-Time) Position ID: SA5010 Department/Division: Police/Operations Reports to: Assistant Chief FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: No DOT: No Definition: Responsible for gathering, entering, analyzing and coordinating data related to sexual assault crimes. Essential Functions: Enters investigation data for sexual assault crimes that meet the criteria into the United States government’s national Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (VICAP) database. Retrieves and analyzes records in the VICAP database for comparison with active and inactive cases. Coordinates with Property and Evidence Section to determine and select eligible sexual assault kits for retesting using scientifically improved testing methods. Reviews and analyzes unsolved sexual assault cases to determine possible connections to sexual assault cases reported in the City and in other jurisdictions. Coordinates with investigators to solve sexual assault cases. Enters performance related metrics required by the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) grant by the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Computer Science, Math or other closely related field Two years of relevant experience in data analysis, trend analysis, research methods, and statistics preferably in a law enforcement role OR Certification in crime analysis from the International Association of Crime Analysts or similar organization. OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Ability to use deductive reasoning, and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing including the capability of producing reports suitable for Council presentations and for use in a court of law; Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers; Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance; Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, e.g. factual and thorough case briefings and research for multiple criminal cases that all contain time-sensitive elements Ability to maintain confidentiality of information; Maintains compliance and certification with Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) databases, the Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal (LEEP), the Violent Crime Apprehension Program (ViCAP) database, and other databases specific to this job’s duties and responsibilities; Strong computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office products, numerous public and private databases, and other task-specific computer software; Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must be able to work outside of regular business hours as required Must meet civilian hiring standards of the Denton Police Department, as such applicants may be required to complete a personal history statement prior to interview so the department can complete an investigative background check Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English Prior experience in law enforcement Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
