021921 Press Release - City of Denton Disaster Declaration 1O1- `FJ60 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DENTON Ryan Adams • (940) 349-8565 • Ryan.Adams@cityofdenton.com Mayor Issues Declaration of Local Disaster Caused by Energy Emergency DENTON, TX, Feb. 19, 2021—On Friday, Feb. 19, Mayor Gerard Hudspeth issued a Declaration of Local Disaster and Order in response to the statewide energy emergency. This declaration will continue to allow the City of Denton to take actions under our Emergency Management Plan and waive permit fees for emergency plumbing repairs for those affected by the extreme weather. This new declaration of disaster allows for the following: • The City Manager or his or her designee is authorized to apply for local, state, and federal assistance as necessary and/or applicable; • The City Manager or his or her designee is authorized to accept on behalf of the City services, gifts, grants, equipment, supplies, and/or materials whether from private, nonprofit, or government sources; • Plumbing permit fees and other associated fees under Ordinance 19-2130 are waived for the duration of this Order. This allows necessary permits to be waived for Denton residents and businesses for the large number of emergency repairs needed caused by the severe weather event. Under this new Order, Development Services has extended the hours for permitting and inspections of weather related repairs for residents. They will be open 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Staff will also be completing virtual inspections for contractors to expedite the repair process. This Declaration of Local Disaster and Order,prompted by the energy emergency, will take effect immediately after its issuance and last for a period of no more than seven (7) days from 12:00 p.m., Feb. 19, 2021 unless continued or renewed by the Denton City Council.
