092021 Press Release - City Launches Alert Denton Emergency Notification System CITY FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DENTON Ryan Adams • (940) 349-8565 • Ryan.Adams@cityofdenton.com City of Denton Launches New Emergency Notification Platform for Residents Alert Denton will replace CodeRED notification system on Oct. 4, 2021 DENTON, TX, Sept. 20, 2021 —The City of Denton will launch a new emergency notification platform, Alert Denton, for residents on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021. The system is powered by Everbridge and will replace the current CodeRED platform to communicate with residents and businesses during emergencies or other critical events. All residents, including those who currently receive text or email notifications through CodeRED, are encouraged to register at www.cityofdenton.com/AlertDenton to receive emergency communications through Alert Denton. "We have a commitment to ensure public safety, community awareness, and emergency response. When there's critical information to relay to our community, we need to reach our residents as quickly and reliably as possible," said Fire Chief Kenneth Hedges. "The Alert Denton emergency notification system allows the City of Denton to disseminate this information across all types of devices, ensuring residents have access to real-time public information when they need it the most." The new platform will alert residents about various events, ranging from severe weather, fires, floods, critical public safety messages, and other emergencies. In the future, the City has the capability to allow users to sign up for non-emergency or routine announcements, such as road closures, utility maintenance, or major event notifications. Residents listed in the local 911 database, and other phone number resources used by Everbridge, will be automatically subscribed to alerts by phone, but Alert Denton allows citizens to self- register, provide additional contact information, or opt out. To ensure real-time access to potentially lifesaving information, residents should sign up to receive messages according to their preferred contact method—cell phone, SMS, home phone, email, fax, pager, and more. Additionally, Like the City's current system, messages can be tailored to specific geographic areas to help ensure that the right residents receive the right message," said Chief Hedges. "We hope all of our community members will take 5 minutes and sign up for this potentially lifesaving service."
