WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 1251, Texas Government Code, as
arnended, the Texas Election Code, as amended, and other related statutes the City Council of the
City of Denton, Texas (the "City") is authorized to call a special election in order to submit to the
voters of the City a proposition regarding the adoption of a 'ceiling' or 'limitation' on the City's
Ad Valorem Tax Levy, to be applied to persons who are disabled and persons who are sixty-five
(65) years of age or older, who receive a 'homestead exemption' on the property that is subject of

governed by the election laws of the State of Texas.

SECTION 6. The official ballots for the Special Election shall be prepared in accordance with
the Texas Election Code so as to permit the electors to vote "FOR" or "AGAINST" on the
PROPOSITION with the ballots to contain such

SECTION 7. In all respects, the Special Election shall be conducted in accordance with
the Texas Election Code.
SECTION 8. `Ihe Denton County Election Clerk shall conduct an unofficial tabulation of
results after the closing of the polls on May 6, 2017. The official canvass and tabulation of the

a Council Meeting in accordance with the Election Code.
SECTION 9. The Council has found and determined that the meeting at which this
provisions of the Texas open meetings law, Tex. Gov't Code ch. 551, as amended, and that a
quorum of the City Council was present.
SECTION 10. The provisions of this Ordinance are severable; and in case any one or more
of the provisions of this Ordinance or the application thereof to any person or circurnstancs
