AN ORDINANCE ORDERING AN ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF DENTON,
TEXAS, ON MAY 6, 2017 AND, IF A RLJNOFF ELECTION IS REQUIRED, ON JUNE 10,
2017, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING COUNCIL MEMBERS TO DISTRICTS 1, 2, 3
AND 4 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS; PRESCRIBING
THE TIME AND MANNER OF THE CONDUCT OF THE ELECTION TO BE 1N
ACCORDANCE WITH AN AGREEMENT WITH THE ELECTION ADMINISTRATOR OF
DENTON COUNTY; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; PROVIDING AN OPEN
MEETINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
SECTTON 1. A municipal election is ordered to be held in the City of Denton, Texas on
Saturday, May 6, 2017, such date being a uniform election date as defined in Tex. Elec. Code
§41,001, as amended (the 66Code"}, for the purpose of electing council members ta Districts 1, 2,
3 and 4. In the event a runoff is required, the runoff election shall be held an Saturday, June 10,
2017.
SECTION 2. The election and early voting shall be canducted at the tirne and in the
manner speciiied in an agreement between Denton County and the City of Denton regarding
election process and practices.
SECTION 3. The manner of holding such election and all questions pertaining thereto
shall be governed by the election laws of the State of Texas.
SECTION 4. The City Council has found and determined that the meeting at which this
Ordinance is considered is apen to the public, and that notice thereof was given in accordance
with provisions of the Texas open meetings law, Tex. Gov't, Code ch. 551, as amended, and that
a quorum of the City Council was present.
SECTION 5, This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and
