The City Council finds and declares that the May 6, 2017 regular municipal election was duly ordered for the purpose of electing Council Members to Districts 1, 2, 3, and 4; that proper notice of said election was duly given and election officials appointed; that the election was duly held and the returns of the election officials have been delivered to the Council, all in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter and ordinances of the City of Denton. SECTION 2. The Council finds and declares that each candidate listed below received a majority of the votes cast for each District on the Council and that each candidate listed below is hereby declared to be elected to the City Council of the City of Denton: FOR DISTRICT 1: Gerard Hudspeth FOR DISTRICT 2: Keely G. Briggs FOR DISTRICT 4: John Ryan and the candidates shall assume the duties of their office on the date that they take the official oath of office. SECTION 4. The Council finds and declares that no candidate received the majority of the votes cast for District 3 and that a runoff election is hereby ordered to be held, in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance No. 2017-030, on Saturday, June 10, 2017. Candidates in the runoff election for District 3 will be Don Duff and Paul Meltzer. SECTION 5. The City Council has found and determined that the meeting at which this ordinance is considered is open to the public and that notice thereof was given in accordance with provisions of the Texas open meetings law, Tex.
