INFORMAL STAFF REPORT
TO MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
SUBJECT:
North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Grants
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
As a member city of NCTCOG, City staff receives notifications for grant opportunities and
monitors the NCTCOG website for grant announcements. The City has successfully secured
grant funding through NCTCOG for Public Safety and was recently awarded two grants for Solid
Waste and Parks and Recreation projects. Staff will continue to monitor and review grant
opportunities as they become available.
DISCUSSION:
NCTCOG is a voluntary association of, by, and for local governments, and was established to
assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and
coordinating for sound regional development. NCTCOG serves a 16-county region of North
Central Texas and has over 230 member governments including 16 counties, numerous cities,
school districts, and special districts. The City of Denton is a member city with staff sitting on
various NCTCOG committees.
As part of their goal in promoting and facilitating coordination in the region, NCTCOG provides
funding opportunities for regional projects. Additionally, NCTCOG administers Federal and
State funding allocations. Several funding opportunities are distributed through committees
while others are open for application.
The City receives notifications for grant opportunities and staff also monitors the announcements
posted on the NCTCOG website. The City has successfully secured grant funding for Public
Safety and was recently awarded two Solid Waste Implementation grants; one for a commercial
food waste diversion pilot program and a second to replace trash and recycling receptacles in
parks. Grant staff attended a webinar on March 7 for a posted grant opportunity and is currently
working with other departments to explore potential proposals.
CONCLUSION:
Staff will continue to monitor and review grant opportunities as they become available.
