ORDINANCE NO. 2018-004
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO.
2017-181, PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF
POLICE OFFICER; PROVIDING A REPEALER CLAUSE; AND DECLARING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on June 20, 2017, the City Council passed Ordinance No. 2017-181,
adopting and approving a schedule of Authorized Positions which relates to compensation and
classification of police officers; and
WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No. 2017-181, the Police Department has
determined that this ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Police Department positions; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. Ordinance No. 2017-181 is hereby amended as provided herein.
SECTION 2. The City Council hereby adopts and approves a schedule prescribing the
number of positions for each classification of police officer in the City of Denton, for 2017-2018,
as shown in the chart attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein as Exhibit "A."
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be cumulative of all provisions of ordinances of the
City of Denton, Texas, except where the provisions of the ordinance are in direct conflict with
the provisions of such ordinances, in which event the conflicting provisions of such ordinances
are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4. It is hereby declared to be the intention of the City Council that the phrases,
clauses, sentences, paragraphs, and sections of this ordinance are severable, and if any phrase,
clause, sentence, paragraph, or section of this ordinance shall be declared unconstitutional by the
valid judgment or decree of any court of competent jurisdiction, such unconstitutionality shall
not affect any of the remaining phrases, clauses, sentences, paragraphs, and sections of this
ordinance, since the same would have been enacted by the City Council without the
incorporation in this ordinance of any such unconstitutional phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph,
or section.
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and
approval as provided by law.
