AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, APPROVING A CITY SPONSORSHIP IN AN
AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $3,703 OF IN -KIND SERVICES FOR THE TEXAS
STORYTELLING FESTIVAL TO BE HELD ON THURSDAY, MARCH 7, THROUGH
SUNDAY, MARCH 10, 2019, AT THE DENTON SENIOR CENTER, EMILY FOWLER
CENTRAL LIBRARY, AND THE DENTON WOMEN' S CLUB BUILDING; AND PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Tejas Storytelling Association is requesting the City Council of the City of
Denton to participate as a sponsor for in -kind services for the Texas Storytelling Festival ("the
Festival"), which will be held at Denton Senior Center, Emily Fowler Central Library, and the Denton
Women's Club Building on Thursday, March 7, through Sunday, March 10, 2019; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Texas Storytelling Festival is to provide a unique regional
event that brings storytellers together from all over Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana premised upon
fostering an appreciation of storytelling as an oral tradition, a performing art, and an educational tool;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Denton will sponsor up to $3,703 of in -kind services for the Festival,
which will include security and fifty percent of the Denton Senior Center rental fees; and
WHEREAS, in exchange for additional support, the City of Denton will be considered an
event sponsor of the Texas Storytelling Festival at a sponsorship level equal to the total value of the
sponsorship provided herein; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Denton finds that it is in the public's interest and
benefit to the citizens of the City of Denton to participate as a sponsor at a level not to exceed $3,703
of in -kind services for the Festival to be held at Denton Senior Center, Emily Fowler Central Library,
and the Denton Women's Club Building on Thursday, March 7, through Sunday, March 10, 2019;
NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Denton finds that it is in the public's interest
and benefit to the citizens of the City of Denton to participate as a sponsor at a level not to exceed
$3,703 for in -kind services for security and by waiving fifty percent of the Denton Senior Center
rental fees for the Festival, which will be held at Denton Senior Center, Emily Fowler Central
Library, and the Denton Women's Club Building on Thursday, March 7, through Sunday, March 10,
2019, and that said participation as a sponsor is hereby approved.
SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its passage and approval.
