City Council Committee Assignments
BACKGROUND:
Participation by Council members in standing, external, and ad-hoc committees assists with the
development of City policy and ensures the voice of the City of Denton is heard by external
organizations. Committee membership assignments are updated annually by the Mayor and City
Council to allow for participation by new Council members and to adjust participation if required.
The City Council will hold a Work Session on June 7, 2022, to discuss which Council members
will be assigned to city-related or external committees and policy bodies. Prior to holding this
discussion, the City is asking each council member to notify the City Secretary of their interest in
serving on any of the available committees.
Attached to this report is a listing of all Council committees, economic development-related
committees, and external committees with the seats that will be available for appointment. Note
that the highlighted names are expected vacancies effective immediately following the swearing-
in of the Council Members-Elect.
Please review the current assignments and notify the City Secretary by Monday, May 23, 2022,
which committees are of interest to you. After the proposed appointment list is presented for
discussion at the June 7 Work Session, action items providing for formal appointments is expected
to occur at the June 18, 2022, City Council meeting (see attached schedule). Your prompt
response in identifying preferred assignments will ensure Council Committees can begin meeting
immediately following formal appointments.
Council Members-Elect for Places 5 and 6 are also being provided a copy of this report so they
too can begin identifying committees of interest and submit those by the noted due date.
