AN ORDINANCE ORDERING AN ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF DENTON,
TEXAS, ON MAY 2, 2020 AND, IF A RUNOFF ELECTION IS REQUIRED, ON JUNE 13,

DENTON, TEXAS, PRESCRIBIlVG THE TTME AND MANNER OF THE CONDUCT OF
THE ELECTION TO BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH A JOIlVT ELEGTTON AGREEMENT
AND CONTRACT FOR ELEC"CiON SERVICES WITH TI-�E ELEC'I'IONS
ADMINISTRATOR 4F DENTON C4UNTY; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE;
PROVIDING AN OPEN MEETINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. A municipal election is o�-d�r�d to be held in the City of Detrton, Texas on
Saturday, May 2, 2020, such date being a uniform election date as defined in Texas Election
Code �41.001, as amended (the "Code"), for the purpose of electing council members for Places
5 and 6 and electing a rnayor to Place 7. In the event a runoff is required, the runoff election
shall be held on Saturday, June 13, 2020.
S�CTION 2. The polling places shall be designated by the Denton County Elections
Administrator (the "Elections Administrator") in accordance with the provisions of a joint
election agreement and contract far election services (the "Agreement") with the Elections
Administrator. The locations of such polling places are set forth in Exhibit A, attached hereto.
Exhibit A shall be modified to include additional or different election day polling places
designated by the Elections Administrator and to conform to the Agreement.
SECTION 3. Early voting shall be conducted by personal appearance at the locatians,
dates and times set forth in E�ibit B, attached hereto, and during the early voting period as
required or permitted by law. Exhibit B shall be modified to include additional or different early
voting locations designated by the Elections Administrator and to conform to the Agreeinent.
SECTTON 4. The most accurate information on election day and early voting locatians
and voting times can be found or obtained by visiting the Denton County webpage noted below
or contacting said County as noted:

SECTION 5. The Elections Administrator shall serve as the early voting clerk in
accordance with the terrns of the Agreement. The Main Early Voting location for the election
for residents of the City shall be at the following address. Applications for early voting by mail
inust be received no later than the close of regular business on Apri120, 2020. Applications for
early voting by mail must be submitted to the following address:

SECTION 6. The manner of holding such election and all questions pertaining thereto
shall be gaverned by the election laws of the State of Texas.
SECTION 7. The City Council has found and determined that the meeting at which
this Ordinance is considered is open to the public, and that notice thereof was given in
accordance with provisions ofthe Texas open meetings law, Texas Government Cade Chapter
551, as ainended, and that a quorum of the City Council was present.
SECTION 8. This Ordinance shall becorne effective imr�ao��iately upon its passage and
approval.
