20-499S:\Legai \Our Documents\Ordinances\20 \Storytelling Festival2020.docx ORDINANCE NO. 20-499 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, APPROVING A CITY CO-SPONSORSHIP TO THE TEXAS STORYTELLING ASSOCIATION, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $2,932 OF IN-KIND SERVICCES AND RESOURCES FOR THE 35TH ANNUAL TEXAS STORYTELLING FESTIVAL, WHICH WILL BE HELD ON THURSDAY, MARCH 12, THROUGH SUNDAY, MARCH 15, 2020, AT THE DENTON CIVIC CENTER; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Texas Storytelling Association is requesting the City Council of the City of Denton to participate as a co-sponsor for in-kind services and resources for the 35th Annual Texas Storytelling Festival (the "Event"), which will be held on Thursday, March 12, through Sunday, March 15, 2020, at the Denton Civic Center; and WHEREAS, for the Texas Storytelling Festival last year on February 26, 2019, City Council authorized a co-sponsorship not to exceed $3,703 under Ordinance 19-223; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the Texas Storytelling Festival is to provide a unique regional event that brings storytellers together from all over Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana premised upon fostering an appreciation of storytelling as an oral tradition, a performing art, and an educational tool ; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton will co-sponsor up to $2,932 of in-kind services and resources for the Event, which will include fifty percent of rental fees at the Denton Civic Center; and WHEREAS, in exchange for that support, the City of Denton will be considered an event co-sponsor of the Texas Storytelling Festival at a co-sponsorship level equal to the total value of the co-sponsorship provided herein; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the co-sponsorship of the Texas Storytelling Festival serves a municipal and public purpose, and is in the public's interest; NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS : SECTION 1. The findings and recitations contained in the preamble ofthis Ordinance are incorporated herein by reference . SECTION 2. The City Council finds that it is in the public's interest and a benefit to the citizens of the City of Denton to participate as a co-sponsorship at a level not to exceed $2,932 for in-kind services which include fifty percent of rental fees at the Denton Civic Center, for the Texas Storytelling Festival, which will be held on Thursday, March 12, through Sunday, March 15, 2020, at the Denton Civic Center that said participation as a co-sponsor is hereby approved.
