20-1781ORDINANCE NO. 20-1781
AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF
THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION RUNOFF TO ELECT A CITY COUNCIL
MEMBER TO DISTRICT 2, HELD IN THE CITY OF DENTON ON DECEMBER 8, 2020;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. The City Council finds and declares that the December 8, 2020 Special
Election Runoff was duly ordered for the purpose of electing a council member to District 2; that
proper notice of said election was duly given and election officials appointed; that the election
was duly held and the returns of the election officials have been delivered to the Council, all in
accordance with the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter and ordinances of the City of
Denton
SECTION 2. The official returns of the election, herein incorporated by reference and
attached as “Exhibit A”, having been opened, examined, and canvassed, and the Council hereby
finds and declares that the following candidate received a majority of the votes cast at the
election in District 2 and is declared to be elected to the City Council of the City of Denton as
follows:
FOR DISTRICT 2: CONNIE BAKER
and the candidate shall assume the duties of office on the date that they take the official oath of
office
SECTION 3. The City Council has found and determined that the meeting at which this
ordinance is considered is open to the public and that notice thereof was given in accordance
with provisions of the Texas open meetings law, Tex. Gov’t Code Chapter 551, as amended, and
that a quorum of the City Council was present.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and
approval.
