A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON PROVIDING FOR REMOVAL FOR
CAUSE OF CYNDELL ADDISON, MEMBER OF THE HEALTH AND BUILDING
STANDARDS COMMISSION, IN ACCORDANCE WITH ARTICLE XIV, SECTION
14.16 OF THE DENTON CITY CHARTER; PROVIDING NOTICE; AND PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES:
SECTION 1. The Denton City Charter, Article XIV, Section 14.16, states, “ Members of
boards and commissions of the City of Denton shall serve at the pleasure of the council.
Members of such boards and commissions may be removed by the council only for cause and
only after being given notice by the council.“
SECTION 2. The Denton Code of Ordinances, Article III, Section 2.83(c), addresses
member attendance requirements that must be met by members of boards, commissions, and
committees; and further states, in part, "... lack of attendance at fIfty (50) percent of the number
of regular/scheduled meetings in a year, shall be considered "cause," as that term is used in
Section 14.16 of the Charter, for removal by the city council.“
SECTION 3. The Denton Boards & Commissions Handbook, last revised by Resolution
21-271 adopted on April 20, 2021, addresses notification be sent to any member who has failed to
meet board member attendance requirements.
SECTION 4. The city secretary, on May 28, 2021, sent written notice to Health and
Building Standards Commission Member Cyndell Addison on the failure to meet attendance
requirements for meetings held April 22, 2021, May 6, 2021, and May 13, 2021, constituting fifty
(50) percent of the number of regular/scheduled meetings in a year), and was afforded the
opportunity to resign before referring the matter to the City Council.
SECTION 5. Member Addison replied to the notification referenced in Section 4 above,
such response attached as Exhibit A.
SECTION 6. Health and Building Standards Commission Member Cyndell Addison is
hereby removed for cause for failing to meet the attendance requirements as set forth in the Denton
Code of Ordinances, Article III, Section 2.83(c) by her absence on the following meeting dates:
April 22, 2021, May 6, 2021, and May 13, 2021.
SECTION 7. This Resolution shall become effective immediately and the City Secretary
is hereby directed to send a copy of this resolution as notice via certified and regular mail to the
member within five days of the date of its passage.

If no resignation is received by June 7 as noted in the letter, I will gladly inform
the Council of the reason for your absences and they can make the determination
