AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON RATIFYING AND APPROVING A CITY
CO-SPONSORSHIP TO THE DENTON HOLIDAY LIGHTING FESTIVAL ASSOCIATION,
INC., IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $43,222.00 OF IN-KIND SERVICES AND
RESOURCES FOR THE ANNUAL DENTON HOLIDAY LIGHTING FESTIVAL, WHICH
WAS HELD ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2021; AT THE HISTORIC DOWNTOWN
SQUARE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Denton Holiday Lighting Association, Inc. requested the City Council of
the City of Denton to participate as a co-sponsor for in-kind services and resources for the Denton
Holiday Lighting Festival ("the Event"), which was held on Friday, December 3, 2021 at the
Historic Downtown Square; and
WHEREAS, for the previous Denton Holiday Lighting Festival held on December 6, 2019,
City Council authorized a co-sponsorship not to exceed $15,208 of in-kind services under
ordinance 19-2835; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Denton Holiday Lighting Festival is to provide a free
family -friendly community tradition to kick off the City's holiday shopping season with the
support of local merchants and the Main Street Association; and
WHEREAS, the City of Denton co-sponsored up to $43,222.00 of in-kind services and
resources for the Event, which included staff, equipment, supplies, facilities, security, Fire/EMS,
and park maintenance staff; and
WHEREAS, in exchange for support, the City of Denton is considered an event co-
sponsor of the Denton Holiday Lighting Festival at a co-sponsorship level equal to the total value
of the co-sponsorship provided herein; and
WHEREAS, the City could not determine the in-kind services amount in time to present
the co-sponsorship to the City Council prior to the event date; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Denton finds it was in the public's interest
and benefit to the citizens of the City of Denton to participate as a co-sponsor at a level not to
exceed $43,222.00 for in-kind services and resources which included staff, equipment,
supplies, facilities, security, Fire/EMS, and park maintenance staff, which was held on Friday,
December 3, 2021, at the Historic Downtown Square and that said participation as a co-sponsor
is hereby ratified and approved.
SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its passage and approval.
