A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON REMOVING A MEMBER OF THECOMMITTEE ON PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVEDATE
WHEREAS, the Denton City Charter, Article XIV, Section 14.16, states, ''AMembers ofboards and commissions of the City of Denton shall serve at the pleasure of the council.
Members of such boards and commissions may be removed by the council only for cause and
only after being given notice by the council.“-, and
WHEREAS, the Denton Code of Ordinances, Article III, Section 2.83(c), addresses
member attendance requirements that must be met by members of boards, commissions, and
committees; and further states, in part, "... lack of attendance at fIfty (50) percent of the numberof regular/scheduled meetings in a year, shall be considered "catlse," as that term is used in
Section 14.16 of the Charter, for removal by the cjty council.“', and
WHEREAS, the Denton Boards & Commissions Handbook, last revised by Resolution 2 1 -
271 adopted on April 20, 202 1, addresses notification be sent to any member who has failed to
meet board member attendance requirements; and
WHEREAS, the City Secretary, on October 7, 2022, sent written notice to the Committee
on Persons with Disabilities Member on the failure to meet attendance requirements for meetings
held March 17, 2022, July 21, 2022, and September 15, 2022, and the Member was afforded the
opportunity to resign before referring the matter to the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the Member failed to submit a response to the City Secretary’s notification;NOW THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES:
SECTION 1. Committee on Persons with Disabilities Member Matthew Granados is
hereby removed for cause for failing to meet the attendance requirements as set forth in the DentonCode of Ordinances, Article III, Section 2.83(c) for absences on the following meeting dates:
March 17, 2022, July 2 1, 2022, and September 15, 2022.
SECTION 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately and the City Secretary
is hereby directed to send a copy of this resolution as notice via certified and regular mail to the
member within five days oftbe date of its passage.
