AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR
THEIR DESIGNEE, TO SIGN LETTERS OF SUPPORT TO THE TEXAS COMMISSION ON
THE ARTS FOR QUALIFIED ARTS ORGANIZATIONS WITHIN THE ORIGINAL DENTONDISTRICT CULTURAL ARTS DISTRICT; AND PROviDnqG AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, each year the Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) offers grants in support of
qualified arts organizations that operate within cultural arts districts; and
WHEREAS, TCA qualified arts organizations can apply for these funds in support of their
efforts to enhance the cultural arts experience in a district and to generate tourism to the district.
Qualified arts organizations must apply for grant funding and must include a letter of support from
the governing board of the cultural arts district; and
WHEREAS, the Original Denton District (ODD) was authorized by the TCA as a cultural
arts district in 2019. The governing Board of the ODD consists of members of the Denton Public Art
Committee; and
WHEREAS, the authorization to sign the letters of support has been sought and granted each
year from the City Council. Delegation of authority to the City Manager, or their designee, to sign all
future letters of support would enhance efficiency of governmental operations; NOW THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. The City Manager of the City of Denton, or their designee, is authorized to
sign all future letters of support for TCA qualified arts organizations within the ODD.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and
approval.
