AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, RATiFYrNG THE ADOPTION OF
THE FISCAL YEAR 2023-2024 ANNUAL PROGRAM OF SERVICES (BUDGET) AND THE
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, FOR THE
FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING ON OCTOBER 1, 2023, AND ENDING ON SEPTEMBER 30,
2024 WHEN THE BUDGET WILL RAISE MORE REVENUE FROM PROPERTY TAXES
THAN LAST YEAR’S BUDGET; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Denton, Texas, has previously on this day of
September 26, 2023 adopted the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Annual Program of Services (Budget) and
the Capital Improvement Program for the City of Denton and set a tax rate for 2023 in separate
votes and actions; and
WHEREAS, this Budget will raise more revenue from property taxes than last year’s
budget; and
WHEREAS, Section 102.007 of the Texas Local Government Code requires the City
Council to take a separate vote to ratify the property tax increase reflected in the Budget when it
will raise more total property taxes than last year’s budget; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. The findings set forth in the preamble of this Ordinance are incorporated into
the body of this Ordinance as if fully set forth herein.
SECTION 2. The City Council hereby ratifies the adoption of the City of Denton Fiscal
Year 2023-2024 Annual Program of Services (Budget) and the Capital Improvement Program that
will raise more revenue from property taxes than last year’s Budget. The City Council hereby
ratifies the property tax increase reflected in the Budget.
SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and
approval at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Denton, Texas on this the 26th day
September 2023 at which meeting a quorum was present and the meeting was held in accordance
with the provisions of Tex. Gov’t Code § 551.001, et . seq. The City Secretary is hereby directed
to record this Ordinance and the vote to ratify approval of the adoption of the Budget that will raise
more revenue from property taxes than last year’s budget.
The motion to approve this ordinance was made by F b, Beck 1 and seconded by [ C . by A++5 1.
