AN ORD[NANCE APPROVING AN INSURANCE CLAIM PAYMENT FROM AFFILIATED
FM [NSURANCE COMPANY FOR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY LOCATED AT 601 EAST
HICKORY, AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR HER DESIGNEE, TO
EXECUTE THE SAME; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, On June 30, 2023, the Jail and Evidence areas of City Hall East were damaged
as a result of water release from a sewer back up resulting in damage to approximately 8,000 square
feet of the building; and
WHEREAS, the parties have negotiated a payment in the amount of $289,345.55 to fully
settle satisfy all disputes related to City’s claim and insurance payment; and
NOW THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY omAiNs:
SECTION 1. The recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance are incorporated
herein by reference.
SECTION 2. The City Council approves and authorizes a insurance claim payment in the
amount of $289,345.55 for water damaged caused to the Jail and Evidence area of City Hall East
and authorizes the City Manager, or her designee, and the City’s attorneys, to act on the City’s
behalf in approving and executing any and all documents necessary or appropriate to effectuate
the terms for receipt of the insurance payment, and to take other actions necessary to complete
related claim.
SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and
approval.
