AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON PROHIBITING RIGHT TURN MOVEMENT
AT THE SIGNALIZED INTERSECTION WHERE THE APPROACHING TRAFFIC IS
FACING A RED SIGNAL LIGHT AND U-TURN WHERE THE APPROACHING TRAFFIC
HAS NO TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNS; A REPEALER CLAUSE; PROVIDING A SAVINGS
CLAUSE; PROVIDING FOR PENALTY NOT TO EXCEED $200 FOR VIOLATIONS OF
THIS ORDINANCE; PROVIDING THAT VIOLATIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE
GOVERNED BY CHAPTER 18 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
DENTON; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Denton’s Transportation Services Department routinely reviews
the safety of intersections and roadways in the City of Denton, as amended, to make corrections,
additions, or amendments, where appropriate; and
WHEREAS, it would be in the interest of public health and safety to restrict right turns
during a red traffic light for northbound and southbound traffic on North Bell Avenue at US 380;
and
WHEREAS, it would be in the interest of public health and safety to restrict right turns
during a red traffic light for northbound and southbound traffic on Nottingham Drive at US 380;
and
WHEREAS, it would be in the interest of public health and safety to restrict right turns
during a red traffic light for northbound and southbound traffic on Old North Road at US 380;
and
WHEREAS, it would be in the interest of public health and safety to restrict right turns
during a red traffic light for northbound and southbound traffic on North Western
Boulevard/Cindy Lane at US 380; and
WHEREAS, it would be in the interest of public health and safety to restrict right turns
during a red traffic light for northbound and southbound traffic on Masch Branch Road at US
380; and
WHEREAS, it would be in the interest of public health and safety to restrict U-turns for
westbound traffic on US 380 at Thomas J Egan Road; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDA INS:
SECTION 1. The findings and recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance
are incorporated herein by reference.
SECTION 2. When signs and/or marking, or any combination thereof, are in place giving
notice thereof, no person traveling on the following streets or portions thereof shall turn right
when facing a red traffic control signal :

On North Bell Avenue northbound or southbound at its intersection with US 380;
On Nottingham Drive northbound or southbound at its intersection with US 380;
On Old North Road northbound or southbound at its intersection with US 380;
On North Western Boulevard/Cindy Lane northbound or southbound at its
intersection with US 380; and
On IVlasch Branch Road northbound or southbound at its intersection with US 380
SECTION 3. When signs and/or marking, or any combination thereof, are in place giving
notice thereof, no person traveling on the following streets or portions thereof shall make a U-
turn
•On US 380 westbound at its intersection with Thomas J Egan Road
SECTION 4. All provisions of the ordinances of the City of Denton in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed, and all other provisions of the ordinances of the
City of Denton, not in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance, shall remain in full force
and effect.
SECTION 5. If any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, cause, phrase, or word in
this ordinance or application thereof to any person or circumstances, is held invalid by any court
of competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of
this ordinance, and the City Council of the City of Denton hereby declares it would have enacted
such remaining portions despite any invalidity.
SECTION 6. Save and except as amended hereby, all the provisions, sections,
subsections, paragraphs, sentences, clauses, and phrases of the Code of Ordinances shall remain
in full force and effect.
SECTION 7. Any person found liable ofviolating this Ordinance by a court of competent
jurisdiction shall be fined a sum not to exceed two hundred dollars ($200). Each instance that a
provision of this ordinance is violated shall constitute a separate offense. The disposition of
citations issued pursuant to this Ordinance shall be governed by Section 18-12 of Chapter 18 of
the Code of Ordinance.
SECTION 8. This ordinance, providing for a penalty, shall become effective 14 days
from the date of its passage, and the City Secretary is hereby directed to cause the caption of this
ordinance to be published twice in the Denton Record-Chronicle, the newspaper of the City of
Denton, within 10 days of the date of its passage.
