Intern II - SA2007-105001 City of Denton Job Description Title: Intern II – Internal Audit Position ID: SA2007–105001 Department/Division: Internal Audit/Administration Reports to: City Auditor FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: No DOT: No Definition: Responsible for supporting audit staff in the completion of audit projects, including performing routine audits and assisting in the execution of performance audits. Responsible for assisting the City Auditor in the prevention and detection of fraud, waste, and abuse. Essential Functions: Collects, analyzes and evaluates relevant information for routine audit projects in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards Assists audit staff with the execution of audit steps in performance audit projects in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards Documents information and conclusions in an organized and useful manner Presents findings clearly to the City Auditor Assists with department administrative duties Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: High School Diploma or related degree Two years college coursework to include one year of coursework in Auditing, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration or a relevant field OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers Ability to objectively analyze and evaluate facts Skill in making judgement-based decisions based upon known criteria Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication Ability to use discretion and care in the handling of confidential and sensitive information Ability to learn government operations, programs, and functions Ability to learn government auditing and accounting techniques Ability to learn data extraction and other analytical tools used in Internal Audit Knowledge of personal computer applications, including word processing, electronic spreadsheets, database management, and presentation graphics Ability to operate a personal computer including Microsoft Office applications Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to observing, sorting, and calculating Ability to complete assigned duties and functions in a timely and effective manner Preferences: Baccalaureate degree in Auditing, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a relevant field Advanced degree (or enrolled in a graduate program) in Auditing, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration or a relevant field Ability to perform audit steps under direct supervision Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check and social security number verification Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The bold and italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
