AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, ADOPTING A CITY LOGO TO BE
USED AS THE OFFICIAL LOGO OF THE CITY OF DENTON; PROHIBITING THE USE
OF THE OFFICIAL CITY LOGO BY ANY PERSON, FIRM, CORPORATION, OR
ORGANIZATION, OTHER THAN THE CITY OF DENTON, WITHOUT WRITTEN
APROVAL OF THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE; PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY
NOT TO EXCEED FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR EACH DAY OF VIOLATION;
PROVIDING FOR A REPEALER CLAUSE; PROVIDING FOR A SEVERABILITY
CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on April 19, 1994, the City Council enacted Ordinance No. 94-074, which
adapted an official Logo to be used on all official City of Denton materials, equipment, and
supplies; and thereafter, on January 9, 199b the City Council enacted Ordinance No 9b-411
amending Ordinance No 94-074 and on November 1 b, 1999, enacted Ordinance No 99-425 amending ordinance No 94-425 in several respects; and
WHEREAS, the City of Denton Ends that the proper use of its Logo will foster a sense of unity and community pride; and
WHEREAS, the City of Denton desires to adopt a new City Logo; and
WHEREAS, as to the official City Logo, the City Council is of the opinion that the same
should not be used by any other person, firm, corporation, or arganization for any purpose
without the written approval of the City Manager or his designee; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. The Logo, as set forth in the attached Exhibit "A", is hereby approved and
adopted as the Official Logo of the City of Denton. This Official Logo shall be reflected and
utilized on all City of Denton supplies and materials ordered or purchased after the effective date
of this ordinance according to policy hereinafter adopted by the City.
SECTION 2. The current supply of printed materials and publications shall be used and
depleted without regard to any new policy or guidelines hereinafter adopted.
SECTION 3. No person, firm, corporation, or organization, other than the City of
Denton shall adopt, use, display, incorporate, or appropriate the official Logo of the City of
Denton as any part of any material, equipment, or other matter of such person, firm, corporation,
or organization without written application to and written approval of the City Manager or his
designee.
SECTION 4. A person, firm, organization, or corporation shall not use, display,
incorporate, or appropriate the official Logo of the City of Denton in any manner which would
violate any State civil or criminal statute.

SECTION 5. Any person, firm, corporation, or organization violating any provision of
this Ordinance shall, upon conviction, be fined a sum not exceeding Five Hundred Dollars
($500.00}. Each day that a provision of this Ordinance is violated, shall constitute a separate and
distinct offense.
SECTION 6. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in force when the provisions of this
Ordinance became effective, which are inconsistent or in conflict with the terms or provisions
contained in this Ordinance, are hereby repealed to the extent of any such conflict.
SECTION 7. If any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase, or word
contained in this Ordinance, or application thereof to any person or circumstances is held invalid
by any court of competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining
portions of this Ordinance, and the City Council of the City of Denton, Texas, hereby declares it
would have enacted such remaining portions despite any such invalidity.
SECTION 8. This Ordinance shall become effective fourteen X14} days from the date of
its passage, and the City Secretary is hereby directed to cause the caption of this Ordinance to be
published twice in the Denton Record-Chronicre, the official newspaper of the City of Denton,
Texas, within ten X10} days of the date of its passage.
