AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, REPEALING ORDINANCE NO.
2006-291 AND AUTHORIZING ASSIGNMENT PAY FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT
EMPLOYEES IN THE CLASSIFICATION OF DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF, BATTALION CHIEF
WHO PERFORM THE SPECIALIZED DUTIES OF TRAINING CHIEF, EMERGENCY
MEDICAL SERVICES CHIEF AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT CHIEF, CAPTAIN-
LOGISTICS/MAINTENANCE OFFICER, CAPTAIN-TRAINING OFFICER, FIRE
MARSHAL, ASSISTANT FIRE MARSHAL, FIRE PROTECTION ENGINEER ASSOCIATE,
FIRE INSPECTOR SPECIALIST, EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM MANAGER
AND FIRE RECRUITMENT MANAGEMENT ANALYST WHO ARE ASSIGNED TO
PERFORM ASSIGNED FUNCTIONS ON A FORTY-HOUR WORK WEEK IN THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on September 26, 2006, the City Council passed Ordinance No. 2006-291
authorizing Assignment Pay for certain Fire Department employees in the classifications of who
perform the specialized duties and are assigned to perform assigned functions on a 40-hour
workweek; and
WHEREAS, Section 143.042 of the Local Government Code authorizes a municipality to
pay assignment pay which is in an amount and is payable under conditions set forth by
ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Fire Chief having recommended that the Fire
Department employee in the classification of Fire Deputy Chief who is assigned to perform the
specialized duties of Operations Division Chief on a 40-hour work week schedule should receive
assignment pay of $600.00 per month; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Fire Chief having recommended that the Fire
Department employee in the classification of Battalion Chief who is assigned to perform the
specialized duties of supervising the Fire Department's Training Program as the Fire
Department's Training Chief on a 40-hour work week schedule should receive assignment pay of
$600.00 per month; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Fire Chief having recommended that the Fire
Department employee in the classification of Battalion Chief who is assigned to perform the
specialized duties of supervising the Fire Department's Emergency Medical Services Program as
the Fire Department's Emergency Medical Services Chief on a 40-hour work week schedule
should receive assignment pay of $600.00 per month; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Fire Chief having recommended that the Fire
Department employee in the classification of Battalion Chief-Resource Manager who is assigned
to perform the specialized duties of Resource Management on a 40-hour work week schedule
should receive assignment pay of $600.00 per month; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Fire Chief having recommended that the Fire
Department employee in the classification of Fire Marshal who is assigned to perform the
specialized duties of Fire Prevention on a 40-hour work week schedule should receive
assignment pay of $600.00 per month; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Fire Chief having recommended that the Fire
Department employee in the classification of Fire Captain-Training Officer who is assigned to
perform the specialized duties of training of Fire Department personnel on a 40-hour work week
schedule should receive assignment pay of $500.00 per month; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Fire Chief having recommended that the Fire
Department employee in the classification of Fire Captain-Logistics/Maintenance Officer who is
assigned to perform the specialized duties of Logistics and Maintenance of Fire Department
apparatus and equipment and supplies on a 40-hour work week schedule should receive
assignment pay of $500.00 per month; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Fire Chief having recommended that the Fire
Department employee in the classification of Assistant Fire Marshal who is assigned to perform
the specialized duties of Fire Prevention on a 40-hour work week schedule should receive
assignment pay of $500.00 per month; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Fire Chief having recommended that the Fire
Department employee in the classification of Fire Protection Engineer Associate who is assigned
to perform the specialized duties of Fire Prevention on a 40-hour work week schedule should
receive assignment pay of $400.00 per month; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Fire Chief having recommended that the Fire
Department employee in the classification of Fire Inspector Specialist who is assigned to
perform the specialized duties of Fire Prevention on a 40-hour work week schedule should
receive assignment pay of $300.00 per month; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Fire Chief having recommended that the Fire
Department employee in the classification of Emergency Management Program Manager who is
assigned to perform the specialized duties of Emergency Management for the City of Denton on
a 40-hour work week schedule should receive assignment pay of $500.00 per month; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Fire Chief having recommended that the Fire
Department employee in the classification of Fire Recruitment Management Analyst who is
assigned to perform the specialized duties of Recruitment on a 40-hour work week schedule
should receive assignment pay of $500.00 per month; NOW, THEREFORE,

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. Ordinance 2006-291 and all prior ordinances or resolutions of the City of
Denton, Texas, in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of any such conflict.
SECTION 2. The Fire Department employee in the classification of Deputy Fire Chief
who is assigned to perform the specialized duties of supervising the Fire Department's
Operations Division on a 40-hour work week schedule should receive assignment pay of $600.00
per month in addition to the regular monthly base salary of Deputy Fire Chief.
SECTION 3. The Fire Department employee in the classification of Battalion Chief who
is assigned to perform the specialized duties of supervising the Fire Department's Training
Program as the Fire Department's Training Chief on a 40-hour work week schedule should
receive assignment pay of $600.00 per month in addition to the regular monthly base salary of
Battalion Chief.
SECTION 4. The Fire Department employee in the classification of Battalion Chief who
is assigned to perform the specialized duties of supervising the Fire Department's Emergency
Medical Services Program as the Fire Department's Emergency Medical Services Chief on a 40-
hour work week schedule should receive assignment pay of $600.00 per month in addition to the
regular monthly base salary of Battalion Chief.
SECTION 5. The Fire Department employee classified as Battalion Chief-Resource
Manager who is assigned to perform the specialized duties of Resource Management on a 40-
hour work week shall receive assignment pay of $600.00 per month in addition to the regular
monthly base salary of Battalion Chief.
SECTION 6. The Fire Department employee classified as Fire Captain-
Logistics/Maintenance Officer who is assigned to perform the specialized duties of Logistics and
Maintenance of Fire Department apparatus and equipment and supplies on a 40-hour work week
shall receive assignment pay of $500.00 per month in addition to the regular monthly base salary
of Fire Captain.
SECTION 7. The Fire Department employee classified as Fire Captain-Training Officer
who is assigned to perform the specialized duties of training on a 40-hour work week shall
receive assignment pay of $500.00 per month in addition to the regular monthly base salary of
Fire Captain.
SECTION 8. The Fire Department employee classified as Fire Marshal who is assigned
to perform the specialized duties of Fire Prevention on a 40-hour work week shall receive
assignment pay of $500.00 per month in addition to the regular monthly base salary of Fire
Marshal.

SECTION 9. The Fire Department employee classified as Assistant Fire Marshal who is
assigned to perform the specialized duties of Fire Prevention on a 40-hour work week shall
receive assignment pay of $500.00 per month in addition to the regular monthly base salary of
Assistant Fire Marshal.
SECTION 10. The Fire Department employee classified as Fire Protection Engineer
Associate who is assigned to perform the specialized duties of Fire Prevention on a 40-hour work
week shall receive assignment pay of $400.00 per month in addition to the regular monthly base
salary of Fire Protection Engineer Associate.
SECTION 11. Fire Department employees classified as Fire Inspector Specialist who are
assigned to perform the specialized duties of Fire Prevention on a 40-hour work week shall
receive assignment pay of $300.00 per month in addition to their regular monthly salary of
Firefighter.
SECTION 12. The Fire Department! employee classified as Emergency Management
Program Manager who is assigned to perform the specialized duties of Emergency Management
on a 40-hour work week shall receive assignment pay of $500.00 per month in addition to the
regular monthly base salary of Emergency Management Program Manager.
SECTION 13. The Fire Department employee classified as Fire Recruitment
Management Analyst who is assigned to perform the specialized duties of Recruitment and
Hiring on a 40-hour work week shall receive assignment pay of $500.00 per month in addition to
the regular monthly base salary of Fire Captain.
SECTION 14. This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and
approval.
