ZOOM 111y- AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, APPROVING AND RATIFYING A LETTER AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF DENTON AND TEXAS WOMAN'S UNIVERSITY REGARDING THE TWU TRIATHLON EVENT; AUTHORIZING AND RATIFYING THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS IN CONNECTION THEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Manager has heretofore executed a letter agreement on behalf of the City of Denton with Texas Woman's University (T'VNU) regarding the TWU Triathlon event, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof as Exhibit A (the"Agreement); and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the Agreement serves a public and municipal purpose by encouraging tourism and visitors to the City, which has a beneficial economic benefit to the City; NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS: SECTION 1. The Agreement is hereby approved and ratified and all expenditures provided for therein are approved and ratified. SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval and has retroactive effect to the date of the Agreement. PASSED AND APPROVED this the 15~~4 day of~ '2008. Box 425349 Denton, TX 76204 Re: TWU Triathlon Event Dear Ms. Connors: Please let this letter serve as a Letter Agreement between the City of Denton and the Texas Woman's University ("TWU") regarding the TWU Triathlon Event, which is scheduled for July 6, 2008. The City agrees to pay $350 towards the overtime cost for police personnel and $600 towards the overtime cost of the ambulance and fire personnel at the event. In exchange TWU agrees to promote the City of Denton, which will encourage tourism in the City. This event will serve a public and municipal purpose by encouraging visitors to the City, which will economically benefit the City. In addition, the City reserves the right to audit your records at a reasonable time and place to verify the expenditure.
