,CALLING AND ORDERING AN ELECTION TO BE HELD ON
TH DAY OF APRIL, A D 1960, THE SAME BEING THE
FZRST TUESDAY IN SAID MONTH, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING
T~O (2) COUNCILMEN FOR THE CITY OF DENTON IN ACCORDANCE
~TH TEE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 3, SECTION 3 01 (a) OF
CHARITER OF TEE CITY OF DENTON, 5~XAS, ESTABLISHING
HOU~ AND PLACE FOR THE SAID ELECTION, PROVIDING
FOR PUBLICATION OF THINS ORDINANCE AND THE POSTING IN
O~W. PUBLIC PLACES IN THE CITY OF DENTON AS NOTICE
-SAID ~T.W. CTION, APPOINTING A PRESIDING OFFICER FOR
SAID ELECTION, DIRECTI~G THE CITY SECRETARY TO MAKE
UP ~HE OFFICIAL BALLOT, CAUSING TEE ~ME TO BE PRIN~IED
DELIVERED TO THE P~RESIDING OFFICER, PROVIDING FOR
MAKING OF OFFICIAL RE~3RNS OF SAID ELECTION, PRO-
VtDING FOR THE 0ANVASSING OF THE RETURNS OF SAID ELECTION
AI~D DECLARING THE RESULTS OF SAME BY THE CITY COUNCIL,
AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
That an election shall be held in the Municipal Building
in the City of Denton, Texas, between the hours of 8 00 o'clock
a m and 7.00 olclock P m on the ~th day of April, A D 1960,
the same being the first Tuesday of said month, for the purpose
of ele,cting two (2) councilmen for the City of Denton, in
accordance with the provisions of Article 3, Section 3 01 (a)
of the Charter of the City of Denton, Texas
SECTION i 2_
That the two candidates who receive the highest number of
votes Ishall be declsmed elected to the City Council of the City
of Denton
~ECTION 3_
~at notice of said election shall be given by the posting
of tr~e copies of this ordinance, signed by the Mayor and
attesSed by the City Secretary in three public places in the
said City, one of which places shall be at the Municipal Building,
for thirty (30) conseoutlve days prior to the date of said
elect$on and this ordinance shall be published in full one time
in the Denton Record-Chro~icle at least thirty (30) days prior
to the said election

~hat Je~ell Smith is hereby appointed Presiding Judge of
said electioh, and the said Jewell Smith shall appoint such
assistants ~s may be necessary to properly conduct said election
~hat t~e City ~ecretary shall ~ke up the official ballot
from ~he n~es presented to him by application or nominating
petit~oms as~ provided by ~rticle 3, Sections 3 02 and 3 03 of
the Charter ~of the City of Denton, Texas, and he is hereby
authorized ~nd directed to have the ballots to be used in such
election printed and delivered to the said Presiding Judge

hat i~ediately after the counting of the votes the Pre-
siding ~udge' shall delive~ the official returns of the election
to th~ City 'Secretary

~at on the Monday next following the election, the City
Counc$1 shal~l canva~ the ~eturns and decl~e the results which
sh~l ~be reoorded in the minutes of the Council

~at t~e two candidates ~ho receive the hi.est number of
votes ~shall be decl~ed elected and the Mayor shall deliver
Certificates of Election to the success~l candidates If two
candidates shall tie. the Council shall order a second election
to be ~held ~n the 14th day after the first election at which
only the n~es of the two candidates who received the s~e
number of v~tes at the First election sh~l be printed on the
ballot In ~the event of a tie at the second election, the two
candidates sh~l cast lots to determine which one shall be
declared elected
~is o~dinance shall ~become effective i~edia~ely upon i~s
passage
