THREE (3) 0OUNOILMEN FOR THE CITY OF DENTON IN ACCORDANCE
WITH THE PROVISIONS OF A~TIOLE 3, SECTION 3.01 (a) OF THE
OHA~ER OF THE 0ITY OF DENTON, TEXAS; EETABLISHING THE
HOURS AND PLACE FOR THE SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR PUB-
L~OATION OF THIS ORDINANCE AND THE POSTING IN THREE PUB-
L~O .PL~GE8 IN THE CITY OF DENTON AS NOTICE OF SAID ELEO-
T~ON, DIREOTING THE OITY ~EORETARY TO MAKE UP THE OFFIOIAL
BALL0~f, ~ CAUSING THE SAME TO BE PRINTED AND DELIVERED TO

0~AL RETURNS OF SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR THE CANVASSING
OF THE RE2URNS OF SAID ELECTION AND DEOLARING THE RESULTS
OF SAME BY THE CITY OOUNCIL; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
THE OOUNOIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1.
That an election shall be held in the Municipal Building
in the~City of Denton, Texas, between the hours of 8:00 o'clock
a.m. ~a~d 7:00 o~clock p.m. on the 4th day of April, A.D. 1961,
the same being the first Tuesday of said month, for the purpose
of electing thmee (3) councilmen for the City of Denton, in
accordlance with the provisions of Article 3, Section 3.01 (a) of
the CHarter of the City of Denton, Texas.
SEOT ION .2.
T~at the three candidates who receive the highest number of
votes,shall be declared elected to the City Council of the City
of Denton.

~hat notice of said election shall be given by the posting
of true copies of this ordinance, signed by the Mayor and attested
by the Oity Secretary in three public places in the said City,
one of which places shall be at the Municipal Building, for thirty
(30) consecutive days prior to the date of the said election and
this ordinance shall be published in full one time in the Denton
Record-Ghmonicle at least thirty (30) days prior to the said
election.
That Jewel1 Smith is hereby appointed P~esiding Judge of
said election, and the said Jewell Smith shall appQint such
assistants as may be necessary to p~operly conduct said election.
SECT ION ~.
That the City Secmetemy shall make up the officialballot
f~om the names p~esented to him by application or nominating
petitions as p~ovided by A~ticle 3, Soctions 3.02 and 3.03 of
the Chsmte~ of the City of Denton, Texas, and he is hereby
autho~ized and directed to have the ballots to be used in such
electtou p~tnted and delive~ed to the said P~esiding Judge.
SECT ION 6.
That l~muediately afte~ the counting of the votes the Pre-
siding Judge shall deliver the official ~etu~ns of the election
to the City Becmetamy.
That on the Monday next following the election, the City
Council shall canvass the ~etu~ns and declare the results which
shall be recorded in the minutes of the Council.
That the three candidates who ~eceive the highest number of
votes shall be declared elected and the Mayo~ shall deliver
Ce~t~ficates of Election to t~ successful candidates. If two
candidates shall tie, the Council shall order a second election
to be held on the l~th day afte~ the first election at which
only the names of the two candidates who received the same
numbe~ of votes at the first election shall be printed on the
ballpt. In the event of a tie at the second election, the two
candiSates shall cast lots to determine which one shall be
declared electeS.
This o~dinance shall become effective immediately upon its
pass,ge.
