AN' ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NUMBER 53-26, PASSED AND
APPROVED ON THE 20TH DAY OF OCTOBER, L953, AS AMENDED TO
DATE BY FURTHER AMENDING SECTION I OF SUCH ORDINANCE TO
PROVIDE CERTAIN RANK CLASSIFICATIONS FOR POLICEMEN UNDER
THE FIREMENmS AND POLICEMEN'S CIVIL SERVICE ACT, PRO-
VIDING FOR THE AUTHORIZED NUMBER OF POLICEMEN IN EACH
RANK CLASSIFICATION~ AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION 1
That Section 1 of Ordinance No 53-26, as amended to date,
is hereby further amended so as to hereafter read as follows
"Section 1 That there shall be in the Denton Police
Department the following rank classifications covered by the
Rules and Regulations heretofore passed by the Civil Service
Commiss,ion of the City of Denton, Texas, under the authority of
the Firemen's and Policemen's Civil Service Act as contained in
Article 1269m of the Revised Civil Statutes of the State of Texas,
and the number of positions authorized for each such rank classi-
fication is indicated by the numeral at the right
1 Captains of Police ...... 3
2. Sergeants ............... 5
3. Patrolmen ............... 23"
SECTION 2
That all ordinances, or parts of ordinances, in conflict
with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed to
the ex=ent of any such conflict
That this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon
its paSsage~ provided, however, that the creation of authorized
rank classifications as provided in Section 1 of this ordinance
shall never be deemed to require the filling of all of such
positions unless deemed necessary by the Chief of Police and
approved by the City Manager.
