1963-007 AN ORDLNANCE BY THE CITY cOUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXA~,~CALLING AND ORDERING AN ,ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE 2ND DAY OF APRIL, A.D. 196~, THE SAME BEING THE FIRST(~UESDAY IN SAID MONTH, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING T~E~(3) cOUNCILMEN FOR THE CITY OF DENTON IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIUNS OF ARTICLE 3, SECTION 3 01 (a) OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS~ ESTABLISHING THE HOURS AND PLACE FOR THE SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR pUBLICATION OF THIS ORDINANCE AND THE POSTING IN THREE PUBLIC PLACES IN THE CITY OF DENTON AS NOTICE OF SAID ELECTION! DIRECTING THE CITY SECRETARY TO MAKE UP THE OFFICIAL BALLOT, CAUSING THE SAME TO BE PRINTED AND DE- LIVENED TO THE PRESIDING OFFICER; PROVIDING FOR THE MAKING OF OFFICL%L RETURNS OF SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR THE CANVASSING OF THE RETURNS OF SAID ELECTIOt~ AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF SAME BY THE CITY COUNCIL~ AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. THE cOUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS: That an election shall be held in the Municipal Building in the City of Denton, Texas, between the hours of 8:00 o'clock a.m ~ 196 , the and~7:00 o'clock p.m. on the 2nd day of April, A.D. same being the first T~eaday of said month, for the purpose of electing three (3) councilmen for the City of Denton, in accordance with the provisions o~ Article 3, Section 3 01 (a) of the Charter of the City of Denton, Texas. That the three candidates who receive the highest number of votes shall be declared elected to the City Council of the City of Denton. That notice of seid election shall be given by the posting of,true copies of this ordinance, signed by the Mayor and attested bylthe City Secretary in three public places in the said City, one of which places shall be at the Municipal Building, for thirty (30) consecutive days prior to the date of the said election and this ordinance shall be published in full one time in the Denton Record-Chronicle at least thirty (30) days prior to the said election. That Jewell Smith is hereby appointed Presiding Judge of said election, and the said jewell Smith shall appoint such assistants as may be necessary to properly conduct said election. That the City Secretary shall make up the official ballot from the na~es presented to him by application or nominating petitions as provided by Article 3, Sections 3.02 and 3 03 of the Charter of the City of Denton, Texas, and he is hereby authorized and directed to have the ballots to be used in such election printed and delivered to the said Presiding Judge. That invaediately after the counting of the votes the Pre- siding Judge shall deliver the official returns o~ the election to the City Secretary. . That on the Mondey next following the election, the City Council shall canvass the returns and declare the results which shall be recorded in the minutes of the Council That the three ce~idates who receive the highest number of votes shell be declare~ elected and the Mayor shall deliver certificates of Election to the successful candidates. If two candidates shall tie, the council shall order a second election tolbe held on the 14th day after the first election at which on%y the names of the two cendidates who received the same number of votes at the first election shall be printed on the ballot.
