2005-114ORDINANCE NO. d~0,.~'---///7Z/ AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE REASSIGNMENT OF THE CITY ATTORNEY AND THE APPOINTMENT OF AN INTERIM CITY ATTORNEY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Herbert L. Prouty, City Attorney ("Prouty"), has announced his intention to retire as of August 31, 2005 ("Retirement Date"); and WHEREAS, the City Council desires that fi~om an after the effective date of this ordinance Prouty will remain a full time employee of the City of Denton but without the title and duties of the City Attorney up to and through the Retirement Date; and WHEREAS, during this period Prouty will continue to provide advisory, consultation and other legal services to the Interim City Attorney to help facilitate a seamless transition in the City's Legal Department; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to appoint Edwin M. Snyder, Deputy City Attorney ("Snyder") as an Interim City Attorney to take effect from and after the effective date of this ordinance; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that this ordinance is in the public interest; NOW, THEREFORE; THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS HEREBY ORDAINS: SECTION 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble of this ordinance are incorporated into the body of this ordinance. SECTION 2. From and after the effective date of this ordinance Prouty will no longer be the City Attorney of the City of Denton but remain a full time employee of the City of Denton, without the title and duties of the City Attorney up to and through the Retirement Dates. During this period Prouty will continue to provide advisory, consultation and other legal services to the Interim City Attorney to help facilitate a seamless transition in the City's Legal Department. SECTION 3. Snyder is hereby appointed Interim City Attorney of the City of Denton and will serve at the pleasure of the City Council until a permanent City Attorney is appointed. SECTION 4. approval.
