2003-112 ORDINANCE NO. ~t~7/~-//~ AN ORDINANCE CA W^SSING THE RETURNS ANY DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO ELECT FOUR CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS HELD IN THE CITY OF DENTON ON MAY 3, 2003; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS: SECTION 1. The City Council finds and declares that the May 3, 2003 regular municipal election was duly ordered for the purpose of electing four council members to Districts 1, 2, 3, and 4; that proper notice of said election was duly given and election officials appointed; that the election was duly held and the returns of the election officials have been delivered to the Council, all in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter and ordinances of the City of Denton. SECTION 2. The official returns of the election officials having been opened, examined, and canvassed, and the Council hereby finds and declares that 2,496 ballots were cast at the election, and that the votes cast for each District on the Council were as follows: EARLY VOTING: FOR DISTRICT 1: Willie Hudspeth 30 votes Raymond Redmon 114 votes FOR DISTRICT 2: Jane Lowrey Fulton 144 votes Pete Kamp 165 votes FOR DISTRICT 3: J. James Gholston 8 votes Jack Thomson 155 votes Oleta Trapp 122 votes FOR DISTRICT 4: Jesse Martin 29 votes Perry McNeill 207 votes ELECTION DAY VOTING: FOR DISTRICT 1: Willie Hudspeth Raymond Redmon FOR DISTRICT 2: Jane Lowrey Fulton Pete Kamp FOR DISTRICT 3: J. James Gholston Jack Thomson Oleta Trapp FOR DISTRICT 4: Jesse Martin Perry McNeill TOTAL VOTES CAST: FOR DISTRICT 1: Willie Hudspeth Raymond Redmon FOR DISTRICT 2: Jane Lowrey Fulton Pete Kamp FOR DISTRICT 3: J. The Council finds and declares that each candidate listed below received a majority of the votes cast for each District on the Council and that each candidate listed below is hereby declared to be elected to the City Council of the City of Denton: FOR DISTRICT 1: FOR DISTRICT 2: FOR DISTRICT 3: FOR DISTRICT 4: Ramond Redmon Pete Kamp Jack Thomson Perry McNeill and the candidates shall assume the duties of their office on the date that they take the official oath of office. SECTION 4. That the City Council has found and determined that the meeting at which this ordinance is considered is open to the public and that notice thereof was given in accordance with provisions of the Texas open meetings law, Tex. Gov't Code eh. 551, as amended, and that a quorum of the City Council was present. SECTION 5. That this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval.
