AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, TO SELECT SAN
NICOLAS DE LOS GARZA, NUEVO LEON, MEXICO AS IT'S OFFICIAL SISTER CITY
WITHIN THE PROGRAM GUIDELINES OF SISTER CITIES INTERNATIONAL, AND
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE OTHER ACTION CONSISTENT WITH
THIS ORDINANCE, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, City of Denton Ordinance No 2000-442 passed and approved the 5`h day of
December 2000 authorized the City of Denton, Texas (City) to join Sister Cities International
and to assist the Denton Sister Cities International (DSCI) Steering Committee (Committee) with
the search for an appropriate Sister City, and
WHEREAS, the DSCI Committee met with municipal and educational leaders in the two
finalist cities of San Nicolas de los Garza, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and Ciudad Victoria,
Tamaulipas, Mexico and completed selection criteria worksheets comparing the resources and
the potential for exchange programs at many levels of interest to the Denton citizenry, and
WHEREAS, the DSCI Committee presented this information for direction by City
Council on April 10, 2001, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION 1 That the City of Denton working in conjunction with the DSCI Steering
Committee is hereby authorized to take any other actions necessary to form a Sister Cities
relationship with San Nicolas de los Garza, Nuevo Leon, Mexico under the guidelines of Sister
Cities International That all actions previously taken by members of the City Manger's staff to
initiate this Sister Cities relationship by Denton Sister Cities Program are hereby ratified and
approved
SECTION 2 That this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage
and approval
